Pixar-wise, 2015 was a big year. For the first time, Pixar released two films this year. And, like a lot of movie studios when they release two movies, one was great and the other was ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ eh. Inside Out was the first to come out in June and it was spectaular. My thoughts are better outlined here. Needless to say, I enjoyed it. The second Pixar movie to come out this year was The Good Dinosaur. I have to admit, I haven't seen it. Probably won't see it until it hits Blu-Ray. The movie has been very polarizing, with some people saying it's amazing and others saying it's a god-awful piece of trash. I couldn't tell you whether it's the latter or the former or somewhere in the middle, but I know that a lot of people love it and a lot of people hate it so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Money-wise, Inside Out was the sixth-highest grossing film of the year, and the thrid highest-grossing Pixar film. Meanwhile, The Good Dinosaur was, by all intents and purposes, a failure. It only made $17 million more than its production budget and, factoring in marketing, it will probably go down as the first Pixar movie to lose money. But that's okay. Pixar needs a failure to show they can't just rest on their laurels and they need to continue making original films. New movie-wise, Pixar confirmed their schedule for the next three years, with Finding Dory hitting next June, Cars 3 hitting June 2017, Coco, the Lee Unkrich-directed Dia de los Muertos movie, coming November 2017, Toy Story 4 coming June 2018, and Incredibles 2 coming June 2019. I'm excited for the upcoming slate. Finding Dory, I'm still not a fan of and the character designs that just came out are not exactly helping. I think Cars 3 can be good if they return to the roots of the Cars franchise, and not make Mater the lead. Coco seems intriguing. We don't much about it, so I can't exactly say what I'm expecting, but Lee made Toy Story 3, so I trust him. Toy Story 4, still not a big fan of, but I'm interested in where they're trying to go, with it being a Bo Peep-Woody love story. Incredibles 2, I can't wait for. With Brad Bird returning, it should be a great time.

As for movies in general this year, 2015 will probably go down (until 2016) as the best year for movies ever. So many great movies came out this year. The ones that came out this year that I've seen were Kingsman, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Mad Max: Fury Road, Tomorrowland, Jurassic World, Ant-Man, Paper Towns, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Kingsman, I love. Avengers 2, I love. I remember having a big, dumb grin on my face the whole time I was watching it. Mad Max was great. It was just so batshit insane, while still being extremely poignant and heartfelt. Tomorrowland was pretty good. Probably the worst thing Brad Bird's done, but when your first four films are as great as his, it's not that bad. Jurassic World was pretty good. While I do agree with, well, everyone that the characters were awful, there's just something about dinosaurs destroying shit that's just so great. Ant-Man was good. It served as a nice little break in the MCU and I can't wait to see what they do with the character next. Paper Towns was okay. I was never a huge fan of the book, so I had low expectations for the movie, but it was actually quite good. Finally, Star Wars. Oh my god, Star Wars. What a movie. For a movie that I had such high expectations for, it EXCEEDED them. If it's any indication of how much I loved it, I saw it twice in the first 24 hours in was out and then again three days later. It's great.

Looking forward to 2016, it's shaping up to be yet another fantastic year. For Pixar, the only release for next year is Finding Dory. I'm not a fan, but it will definitely still make a bajillion dollars and will make up for the financial failures of The Good Dinosaur. Kung Fu Panda 3, Hail, Caesar!, Deadpool, Zootopia, Batman v. Superman, Civil War, X-Men: Apocalypse, Independence Day 2, the female Ghostbusters reboot, Star Trek Beyond, Suicide Squad, Laika's Kubo and the Two Strings, Gambit, Doctor Strange, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Moana, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It's as though a thousand wallets cried out in terror and then were suddenly silenced.

So that concludes my year in review. Personally, this has been probably my best year ever. I've met and gotten to know a lot of great people through my fraternity and beyond. I've gotten to experience some amazing opportunities, working for both Ball State and Purdue. After a tumultous 2013 and 2014, it's nice to finally settle in where I'm at and feel like I'm part of another great family. So thanks to everyone who helped make my 2015 so cute and so frat. See ya in 2016, maybe, who knows. This blog gets so underused that I sometimes forget to use it. I'll be around though. I'll probably post a Finding Dory review and other random things. So stay tuned, I guess.

Pixar's back! From a two-year hiatus from the theaters that included some shorts and lots of future movie annoucements. But here they are, back on the big screen with Inside Out. And if anyone out there was worried that Inside Out would continue the (BS) recent Pixar tradition of sub-standard films, boy were they eating crow. Inside Out is a perfect addition to the Pixar filmography and, in my personal opinion, one of the top three films they've ever produced. From literally the Disney logo on, you are thrown into this amazing world that Pete Docter, Ronnie del Carmen and the rest of the crew created. We are first introduced to Joy (Amy Poehler), who, for being the literal embodiment of happiness, is one of the most conflicted characters Pixar's ever created. Her struggle to maintain order in Riley's head and her conflicting opinions with those of Sadness (Phyllis Smith) are what drive the film and keep the action moving forward. Going back to Sadness, she might be one of my favorite Pixar characters ever. For being one solitary emotion, she has a lot of underlying traits that make her wonderful. Riley's other emotions are great characters too, if not super developed like Joy and Sadness. Fear (Bill Hader) has some great moments as he and the other emotions try to run HQ without Joy around. Anger (Lewis Black) has some great moments, especially regarding the running gag of the gum commercial. Disgust (Mindy Kaling) is also pretty great. We can't forget the real star of the movie, Bing Bong (Richard Kind). For someone barely in the marketing and with such a mysterious aura surrounding him, Bing Bong might be the best character in the film. He has probably the most emotional scene in the film (which I won't spoil) and, other than Anger, some of the funniest moments in the film. He's great. The human characters, though, are what make the film so powerful. Riley (Kaitlyn Dias), her mom (Diane Lane), and her dad (Kyle MacLachlan) bring a personal connection to the film that helps it really hit hard with audiences, which helps make it so emotional. And by emotional, I mean EMOTIONAL. For a film about emotions, the one you use the most while watching is sadness. Seriously, Pete Docter really loves leaning on the feels card. With Boo and Sulley's goodbye in Monsters, Inc., the Married Life and Things We Did sequences in Up, and now this, he's easily the best over in Emeryville at tapping into raw emotions. The animation is just lovely. It's got a really nice cartoony feel when we're in Riley's head, and outside it features the best human animation I think Pixar's ever done. There's one scene where the animation styles change and it might be the single most amazingly animated sequences Pixar's ever done. The score is amazing too. Michael Giacchino is now 5 for 5 at making fantastic scores. The score helps egg on the emotion too, much like it did for Up. The lesson of Inside Out might be the deepest, and yet simplest, of any Pixar film ever made. I won't tell you what it is, you'll have to see for yourself.

The whole stage for Inside Out is set up by the short Lava, directed by James Ford Murphy. It's a fun little short. The animation is unbelivable, not as great as The Blue Umbrella, but pretty damn good. The person I sat next to when I saw the movie kept snickering at the forced lava pun, which is pretty cheesy. But aren't a lot of cute things incredibly cheesy? The trailers I saw (that I can remember) where The Good Dinosaur and Minions. There were others, but I forgot. Not a big reaction for TGD, but whatever I'm excited. Minions however got huge laughs for almost everyone except me and my sister. I don't get the minions. Sorry, but I liked them better when they were green, three-eyed, and praising a claw.

So, moral of the story is Inside Out is great. Like really great. It's a shame it'll probably be the one to break the string of number one debuts for Pixar films. Stupid, sexy Chris Pratt. Anywho, just go see Inside Out. It really is worth it. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll cheer. I know I did.

FINAL SCORE: 9.5/10
Why stop now? So 2014. Kind of a sucky year Pixar-wise. No movie made it a really empty year. However, it was a hot (and disappointing) year for future announcements. First off, in March, Bob Iger confirmed the development of Cars 3 and The Incredibles 2. My thoughts are expressed here. Then, in October, new stuff! The first teaser for Inside Out was released and it was glorious. Then, disaster struck. Toy Story 4 confirmed. I was none too pleased. Still not, but whatever. In the last month of the year, Toy Story That Time Forgot was released. I loved it. The second trailer for Inside Out was also released and was pretty good. Movie-wise, 2014 might have one of the greatest ever. The Lego Movie, Captain America 2, Godzilla, X-Men: DOFP, HTTYD2, TFiOS, 22 Jump Street, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Guardians of the Galaxy, BH6, Mockingjay, Penguins of Madagascar, so many great films.

Now, on to 2015. After the Pixar-less 2014, we get a double dose of Pixar in 2015. First up, on June 19, is Inside Out. As I stated earlier, I thought the trailers looked great and I'm super excited for it. Then, on Thanksgiving, we get The Good Dinosaur. I'm really intrigued by what they have planned for this film that has had a rocky development. Elsewhere in the film world, 2015 is shaping up to be just as good, if not better, than 2014. Jupiter Ascending, Spongebob 2, Kingsman, Chappie, Avengers 2, Mad Max, Tomorrowland, Paper Towns, Jurassic World, Ant-Man, Fantastic Four, Victor Frankenstein, Spectre, Peanuts, Mockingjay 2, The Force Awakens, and Mission: Impossible 5. My wallet is gonna be hurting next year. So, if you've made it this far, thanks for reading. I'll be around next year on Twitter, Facebook and Reddit, not sure about here. I'll definitely put up reviews for Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur. So thanks for reading.
I wrote this for a class, but I figured I'd post it here, just for fun.

I have chosen to do my study over something very simple: a Buzz Lightyear toy. Now, the toy itself doesn't have any real significance. I mean I bought this in a set of eight for ten bucks at the Disney Store two years ago. But what it represents, the pop culture phenomenom that is Toy Story, is far reaching, even to this day, 19 years after the first film. I mean, as I write this, a Christmas special just premiered and they announced a fourth film just one month ago. Now, it's just a simple little PVC toy that doesn't do anything special. Of course, that's as far as I know. Maybe it does come to life when I leave the room, like in the movie, but I have no evidence supporting that. The course theme that this toy represents is the tech/science part. Toy Story was the first fully computer generated film. It represented a changing of the guard. 2D animation was the king back in 1995. Just the year prior, The Lion King had been released and became the highest grossing animated film of all time, at that point. So 2D was at its highest point since the '50s and '60s, when Walt Disney was still alive making magical films such as Cinderella, Peter Pan, and Sleeping Beauty. But, once Toy Story came out, there was a flood of CGI animation. DreamWorks Animation, Blue Sky Studios, even Disney itself abandoned traditional 2D animation for CGI within ten years of the release of Toy Story. And it still inspires people to this day. Students of computer animation owe their careers to Toy Story and Pixar. The two sequels have drummed up feelings of wonder and awe in kids of all ages from one to one-hundred-and-one. John Lasseter, director of Toy Story, Toy Story 2, and the upcoming Toy Story 4 said "There will always be something special about the characters from Toy Story. They were the first." And he's right. Toy Story is a film series that has inspired the current generation (hi) and will continue to inspire generations to come. I'm not alone in saying this but I love Toy Story.pixarfan9510http://www.blogger.com/profile/09484251018364229838noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3818878906481665379.post-34154173380184833072014-11-06T18:00:00.000-05:002014-11-06T18:00:07.911-05:00Toy Story 4 Confirmed for 2017

Why, God, why? If there is any movie series on the planet less deserving of another sequel than the Toy Story franchise, come find me and tell me about it because I want to know. I'm incredibly upset right now, so I'm probably overreacting a bit, but this news is incredibly upsetting.
After years of waiting, the first teaser for Inside Out is here. It's been a rough year for Pixar fans, what with no movie this year and the only new thing being Toy Story That Time Forgot in December, so it's nice that the beginning of this teaser is a little retrospective of the company we love. Inside Out drops June 19, 2015 in Disney Digital 3D.pixarfan9510http://www.blogger.com/profile/09484251018364229838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3818878906481665379.post-75324280184255886882014-03-18T14:31:00.001-04:002014-03-18T14:31:59.964-04:00Sigh...

It's finally happened. Today, at the Disney Shareholders Meeting, Robert Iger announced that Pixar is currently in development on The Incredibles 2 and Cars 3. Ugh. I'm not pleased by this news. Neither of these films have any reason to exist beyond $$$$$ for Disney/Pixar. At least with The Incredibles 2, it was announced that Brad Bird is working on it, but, still, no need. I want Brad to be working on original stories, not unneeded sequels. I honestly think Cars 3 is more necessary than The Incredibles 2. At least Cars 3 can help atone for the mediocrefest that was Cars 2. The Incredibles 2 doesn't need to happen. Neither does Cars 3. I get that sequels are a necessary part of all movie studios, but it can probably stop soon. This will make six out of ten films as sequels (TS3, Cars 2, Monsters U., Finding Dory and now these two.) I really hope this is just a strange phase for Pixar, sort of like the phase DreamWorks went through from 2002 to about 2007 of making stupid/unnecessary films/sequels (except Shrek 2. I like Shrek 2.) DWA came out of that phase and have made some of my favorite animated films recently. Pixar, please stop.pixarfan9510http://www.blogger.com/profile/09484251018364229838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3818878906481665379.post-38886752920169014572014-02-03T16:04:00.001-05:002014-02-03T16:04:17.783-05:00Happy Birthday, Pixar!
28 years ago, on February 3, 1986, Steve Jobs paid $10 million to purchase Lucasfilm's Graphics Group. After failing as a tech company and costing Jobs upwards of $50 million, they decided to go solely into film. In 1991, they made a deal with The Walt Disney Company to produce three computer-animated films. 23 years, 14 films, $8.5 billion grossed and one $7.4 billion acquisition by Disney later, we all know them better as Pixar Animation Studios. Happy 28th birthday, Pixar. I think I speak for everyone who loves your films when I say we owe you so much. Hey all. I just wanted to make this quick post regarding a little bit of news that just came across the interwebs. Latino Review is reporting that Pixar is in early development on a film set in the Star Wars universe. This has been rumored since Disney acquired Lucasfilm in late 2012, but this is the first real concrete rumor that has come around. However, before you started either cursing George Lucas or dancing in the streets in your Anakin Solo cosplay, hear me out.

I don't think Pixar is producing a Star Wars movie.

However, that doesn't mean they aren't involved. My guess is that it's actually Lucasfilm Animation working on it. It's more likely that it's just Pixar's Brain Trust (JL, Pete, Andrew, Lee, Brad Bird, MAndrews, Dan Scanlon, Bob Peterson) is helping out, much like they did on Tron: Legacy, The Muppets and every Disney film since 2007. So I definitely think it's a false alarm sort of thing. However, I'm very interested in the future of Star Wars. It can only go up from here. Have a great day and a great life. Bless your faces.pixarfan9510http://www.blogger.com/profile/09484251018364229838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3818878906481665379.post-14945572014247931762013-12-31T21:38:00.001-05:002013-12-31T21:38:43.575-05:00A Few Thoughts on 2013Another year, another recap. 2013 has come and gone and now it is time to look at it in the world on Pixar. It was another shaky year for Pixar. It started off well. The Monsters U. trailer came out in February and got people excited. However, two months later, something I myself didn't like occurred. Pixar confirmed Finding Dory's existence. I was not pleased. I felt it was a blatant cash grab at the time. I've since warmed up, but I'm not 100% behind it. Then, in June, Monsters University premiered. It got stellar reviews, not as stellar as the original Monsters, but not Cars 2-level. It's the third highest grossing Pixar film, so it definitely did well. However, it was not the highest-grossing animated film of the year. That honor somehow belongs to Despicable Me 2, which I don't see the appeal of. Anyway, The Blue Umbrella also came with Monsters U. and it was fantastic. I definitely think the Academy shafted it by not even including on its shortlist for Best Animated Short. Dumb. Lots of other great films came out this year. Frozen was released to great reviews and will probably win a ridiculous amount of awards, including maybe beating Monsters U. for the Oscar. In other films, Iron Man 3, Catching Fire, Man of Steel, Gravity (should win all the Oscars,) Thor 2, Don Jon, 12 Years A Slave, Anchorman 2. A lot of great stuff. I also discovered the wonders of British television, i.e. Sherlock and Doctor Who. I was missing so much. It's all brilliant.

Now onto 2014. 2014 will be the first year since 2005 without a Pixar film. Internal strife caused Bob Peterson to be removed from the director's chair and still hasn't been replaced. A few weeks later, Pixar moved The Good Dinosaur from June 2014 to November 2015, which will result in a lack of Pixar for 2014. That means Pixar's next film is Pete's Inside Out, which looks incredible. However, not all hope is lost. 2014 is a packed year for film. The Lego Movie, Peabody and Sherman, Muppets 2, Noah, Captain America 2, Rio 2, Transcendence, Amazing Spider-Man 2, Godzilla, X-Men: Days of Future Past, 22 Jump Street, How to Train Your Dragon 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Boxtrolls, Big Hero 6, Interstellar, Mockingjay Part 1, Home (another DWA film,) and The Hobbit 3. Not too shabby. So, this is me signing off for 2013. Unlike some other animation blogs, I won't be going away next year. However, there may be a lack of stuff to post about, but I'll try my best. Bless your face. If you sneezed during this blog post, bless you. Peace off.pixarfan9510http://www.blogger.com/profile/09484251018364229838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3818878906481665379.post-85873652378006295432013-09-18T15:02:00.001-04:002013-09-18T15:02:27.623-04:00The Good Dinosaur, Finding Dory, and Dia de los Muertos Pushed Back

If you've been living under a rock for the past 30 minutes, you may not have heard that The Good Dinosaur has been moved from May 30, 2014 to November 25, 2015, the spot previously held by Finding Dory. In all honesty, this is good. If you haven't heard, Bob Peterson was taken off the project a month or so ago and Pixar didn't name a replacement immediately. Pushing the film back allows the new director, whoever they are, more time to tweak and make the film their own. Because of TGD being moved, Dory and Dia de los Muertos were also moved to dates currently unknown. TGD drops November 25, 2015 now, meaning no Pixar film in 2014. But there is plenty of other stuff to look forward to next year. The LEGO Movie, Mr. Peabody and Sherman, How To Train Your Dragon 2, Rio 2, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men: Days of Future Past, 22 Jump Street, The Boxtrolls, Big Hero 6, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1, Home, and, of course, the animated movie event of the summer: Planes: Fire and Rescue.pixarfan9510http://www.blogger.com/profile/09484251018364229838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3818878906481665379.post-59535229306679594802013-09-17T22:23:00.002-04:002013-09-17T22:23:58.211-04:00Don Jon Review

I just got out of a special sneak preview screening of Don Jon (yay college) and I gotta tell ya, it's a great movie. For being the directorial debut of Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who will be known as JGL for the rest of this review), it's a great movie. I think the picture above perfectly sums up JGL's character, Jon. He plays a porn and sex addicted, for lack of a better term, guido very well. Scarlett Johansson plays Jon's love interest and she also plays a (sorry) guido well. Julianne Moore adds an emotional tentpole to the movie as a woman Jon meets at night school. A lot of the comedy comes from Jon's family. His father is played by (hold me closer) Tony Danza and he steals the show, a la Bryan Cranston in everything he's in. Jon's mom is played by Glenne Headly, who does a wonderful job. Brie Larson plays Jon's sister, who has no lines until the last 15 minutes, but is still very funny. The story can feel formulatic at times, but the ending is sweet and somewhat surprising, but I'm sure as hell not gonna tell you it. JGL is a very, very talented actor and Don Jon is a good start to a very talented writing and directing career. It's not a movie I would see at full price (it's 88 minutes, which feels really short in my opinion), but, if it was a Sunday matinee, I'd peek in. Also, DON'T BRING YOUR KIDS. Seriously, this movie is NOT, I repeat NOT for anyone under 17. When it says R, they mean a hard R. Argo may not have deserved an R rating, but this sure as hell did. That being said, go see it. You'll be glad ya did. I am. 8/10pixarfan9510http://www.blogger.com/profile/09484251018364229838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3818878906481665379.post-62070293607204954302013-08-09T12:16:00.000-04:002013-08-09T12:18:11.522-04:00Finding Dory Changed in Response to Controversial Documentary

In very interesting news, Brooks Barnes of the New York Times reports that the still-in-development script to Finding Dory has been altered after a new documentary, Blackfish, was released recently. The documentary talks about Tilikum, a killer whale at SeaWorld Orlando, who has been in captivity since 1983 and at SeaWorld Orlando since 1992. It's an interesting picture of killer whales in captivity and why it's wrong to keep them in captivity. I have yet to see it, but I have heard nothing but good things about it. Anyway, back to Finding Dory. As reported by Barnes, an unnamed Pixar employee confirmed to him that the ending of Finding Dory involved a marine park, such as SeaWorld. But, because of Blackfish and the publicity hit SeaWorld is receiving due to it, they have changed the ending to make it so that the characters at the aquatic center have the option to leave. Obviously Finding Dory is years away, so it's not like this is film breaking news. But it is interesting to see just how privy to the world's emotions Pixar is. I know in Monsters, Inc., they changed the Harryhausen's scene from it exploding to the current scene after the September 11th attacks. Finding Dory drops November 25, 2015. Expect something on it today at D23.'
Both Marvel and Warner Bros. had their panels today and some big things for 2015 were announced. First up today was WB. They announced the sequel to Man of Steel. However, it's not your traditional sequel. Instead, it is a Batman/Superman team-up. Yes, that was the sound of me passing out. Zack Snyder is directing and it's partially based on Frank Miller's masterpiece The Dark Knight Returns. They showed a logo. Here it is.
If you are wondering "Where's all the Pixar news?", here's your answer. Pixar is not there. Instead of doing Comic-Con this year, Disney is doing their bi-annual D23 Expo in a couple of weeks. There is where everything about Disney and Pixar's newest films will be revealed. D23 starts on August 9 with the animation panel at 1 PM EDT. Should be fun.pixarfan9510http://www.blogger.com/profile/09484251018364229838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3818878906481665379.post-28360983802684746832013-07-12T22:25:00.001-04:002013-07-12T22:26:13.613-04:00How To Train Your Dragon 2 Teaser
While, yes, How To Train Your Dragon is not a Pixar film, it is my favorite DreamWorks movie and one the better animated movies I've seen. It definitely confirmed that DWA is not just a lame sequel factory. It's an amazing film, so I'm understandably excited for the sequel. Just from the teaser, it looks AMAZING. Everyone in the cast is back, Dean DeBlois, one of the directors is back, it's DWA's first movie with their new animation system, much like Brave was Pixar's first movie with their new animation system. I'm excited. HTTYD2 drops June 20, 2014.pixarfan9510http://www.blogger.com/profile/09484251018364229838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3818878906481665379.post-815358413941442372013-07-06T19:36:00.000-04:002013-07-06T19:37:45.879-04:00Hilarious Monsters U. From Nate Beeler of the The Columbus Dispatch comes a very funny Monsters U. editorial cartoon parodying the hike in college tuition and the hike in student loan interest rate. As an incoming freshman this fall, I find this quite hilarious.
It's been about one hour since I got out of Monsters University. I still haven't come down from the high. What an incredible movie. From beginning to end, every single part of it was unbelievable. Spoilers begin after the jump.

From the first scene with the two headed pigeon, which was a great way to remind everyone that this was the monster world, to the last shot of Mike and Sulley beginning their first day at Monsters, Incorporated, this won on so many levels. It starts off with a great little scene of Mike, aged three-ish, and his classmates going to Monsters, Inc. The amount of throwback scenes and score cues that invoked great memories of the original were fun to see. I loved the Roz and Yeti cameos. They were great ways to set up how those characters acted in MI. The movie looked amazing. Monsters U. is probably Pixar's best looking film to date. The global illumination software that Pixar created to help light this film made it look outstanding. The scene where Mike and Sulley are talking by the lake in the human world is one of the best looking scenes I have ever laid my eyes on. I liked that there really was no "villain." Yes, one could say Dean Hardscrabble was the villain, but she was just doing her job, especially at the end where she locked both Mike and Sulley in the human world. The new characters were really fun. My favorites were probably Art, Brock, and Claire. Art may have only had a few lines in the movie, but I laughed at them all. Charlie Day did a wonderful job. Brock's incessant screaming was hilarious and Claire's low key attitude (except after the final Scare Game) was a joy to watch. I hope Tyler Labine and Aubrey Plaza come back for some more Pixar films. I also really liked Johnny. Even though he was a jerk, Nathan Fillion played him in a way that made you fall in love with his sliminess. Nathan Fillion, please do more Pixar. I love you. Watching Mike and Sulley's relationship develop throughout the film was really fun to watch. The fact that they didn't even admit they were really friends until the end was fun to see. It was akin to watching Buzz and Woody hammer out their relationship in Toy Story 1. I also really liked the ways that the film connected to MI, such as why Mike was so apprehensive to Boo originally, or why the Yeti was banished, or why Randall hates Sulley. There were probably more, but I missed them. I also missed A113 and the Pizza Planet truck, even though I knew where they were. Oh well, I'll definitely see them when the movie comes out on home media. Allinol, it was great. The whole movie was great. I really hope Dan Scanlon gets another chance to direct. He's a very funny guy and it shows, especially through Art.

Now, onto The Blue Umbrella. Just, wow. Wowwowwowwowwowwowwow. One of my favorite Pixar shorts. While the premise was just a little generic (basically it was Paperman with umbrellas), the visuals more than made up for it. I hope Pixar does more with the photo-realism software they have because the film was stunning. My family didn't even know it was animated, that's how real it looked. As little as I'm looking forward to Finding Dory, if they use the photo-realism software from this movie for that, well, let's just say that Pixar will never outdo itself then.

The trailers in front of Monsters U. were Despicable Me 2, Frozen, The Lego Movie, and Planes. No one laughed at Planes, Despicable Me 2 got the most consistent laughter, there was a big laugh at the last bit of the Frozen trailer and I didn't any laughter (other than mine) for The Lego Movie.

So there is my review. I hope you guys liked it. I know it was pretty long, but it needed to be done. So thanks for reading. I do plan on using this a bit more for just whatever. I feel this will be a pretty low key summer for Pixar other than this. So anyway, bless your face. If you sneezed during this review, bless you. Peace off.
So I'm sure you've all heard by now: Finding Dory confirmed for 2015. If not, surprise! Scroll down for more info. I just wanted to put my thoughts on this film out there.

I don't want this movie. This is an extremely disappointing development. Finding Nemo was a great film, there's no denying that. I'm not a huge fan, but to each their own. It ended on, at least for me, a final note that wrapped it up and left no room for a sequel. Boy, was I wrong. July 17, 2012 was the first rumblings of a sequel to Nemo. Andrew Stanton tweeted this after all the Pixar fandom had a collective head explosion:

Didn't you all learn from Chicken Little? Everyone calm down. Don't believe everything you read. Nothing to see here now. #skyisnotfalling

So he pretty much denied it. Then in August, Ellen Degeneres was confirmed back. I'll admit, I squirmed and was a little skeptical. Then, Albert Brooks was confirmed. At this point, I was worried sick that this was happening. Then today, the stuff hit the fan. I was POed. I couldn't believe that Pixar was doing this. This just reeks of studio meddling. I think that Disney pressured Andrew into this situation after the failure of John Carter. Dory's backstory is definitely interesting, but I don't feel it needs an entire movie. And before everyone jumps on me saying, "But there's three original movies coming out right before it!", I know. But, four sequels in six years is kind of... off. Now, of course I will see it. I have full faith that Andrew and Pixar know what they're doing and can make an outstanding movie. But, until the first footage or more plot details, I have a weary eye towards it. That is all. Thanks for reading. Bless your face. Peace off.
The news that Finding Nemo 2 was in the works was upsetting enough. The fact that the main actors, Albert Brooks and Ellen DeGeneres, were returning was unsettling, considering the fact that I didn't want this. Today is a dark day.

Pixar confirmed today that the rumors are true. Finding Nemo 2 is coming. It will be titled Finding Dory. Here is the logo:
I wanted to write something about one of my favorite shows on TV at the moment: Tron: Uprising. Uprising is a great show that Disney has completely screwed by changing times and dates and all sorts of other junk. But, before we get to that, we must first talk about the show itself. The show takes place between Tron and Tron: Legacy and is an attempt to fill in some backstory in Legacy. Now, full disclosure, I've never seen either Tron 1 or Legacy, but I have read the plots and gone through the TV Tropes page, which is really in-depth. The show stars Elijah Wood as Beck, a mechanic program who works for Able, played by Reginald VelJohnson from Family Matters. His two best friends are Mara, played by Mandy Moore, and Zed, played by Nate Corddry, Rob's younger brother. Instead of telling you the extremely long backstory, I will sum it up and then embed the first episode that explains this all at the end of the article. Basically, Clu 2, NOT played by Jeff Bridges, takes over Beck's town, Argon. He installs a governor, Tesler, played by Lance Henriksen, who is assisted by Paige, played by Emmanuelle Chriqui, and Pavel, played so very wonderfully by Pee-Wee Herman, I mean Paul Reubens. Watch the episode to see it all, but essentially, Beck's friend is killed and, obviously, Beck's unpleased. So he decides to take on the persona of Tron and destroys the Clu statue that had been installed in Argon. His actions get him noticed by the real Tron, played, as in the films, by Bruce Boxleitner. He decides to take Beck under his wing and train him as his apprentice. 15 episodes have premiered since, and almost all of them have been incredible. The talent they manage to get for the show astounds me. Guest stars have included David Arquette, Donald Faison, John Glover, and Aaron Paul. They even got Olivia Wilde to reprise her role as Quorra from Legacy. There is a lot put into this show and it shows. It looks fantastic. The animation style is very unique and looks great. The music that Joseph Trapanese has done is awesome. As a huge fan of Daft Punk's score for Legacy, the slight changes the Trapanese does are great and add a lot to the story. However, Disney XD has shuffled it around A LOT. It used to be on Fridays at 7 PM Eastern, which, while not a great time like Saturday morning, it's not terrible. Then they moved it. To Sundays. AT MIDNIGHT. Who is going to be up watching at 12 AM, Disney XD? WHO? There's a reason it has low ratings and people are practically begging for it to stay on. Because Disney has screwed the show. I'm also a huge fan of The Legend of Korra and I like how Nick gave the show two seasons before it even aired. With Uprising, I'm worried. There is no guarantee that Disney will bring it back, and, if they do, when they will air it. I think that Disney should show some episodes on Disney Channel and see how they do. If they do well, bring it back. If not, then don't. It's not hard, guys. Good lord this post is long. But it needed to be. There are some diehard Uprising fans, like me, who don't want to see it go. Disney needs to respect what they have and not muck it up. THIS SHOW NEEDS TO CONTINUE. TRON LIVES. END OF LINE.

Above is some incredible artwork by Katy Wu from Newt. What is Newt, you may be wondering? It was a project from Pixar that was scheduled for Summer 2011/2012 that was ultimately cancelled. Gary Rydstrom was the director and writer. The reason it was cancelled was, according to JL, that Blue Sky's Rio had a similar plotline. That being that the protagonists were the last two of their respective species and they hated each other. However, they had to get together in order for their species to live on. While it is strange to have two films have nearly identical plots, that doesn't mean that you have to cancel the movie! I mean, look at that art! This movie looked STUNNING. This is just one of many pieces that have been released. Katy has more on her website at that link I posted. Heck, PIXAR THEMSELVES posted an album of art on their own Facebook page. There is no reason that this movie should have been canned. Scrap Finding Nemo 2 and put Newt back into production. Even if Gary Rydstrom is back at Skywalker Sound doing sound design, bring him back. Heck, Pixar and Skywalker are practically brothers after the Disney-Lucasfilm deal. This movie needs to happen. SOON. I require a 2018 release. DO IT PIXAR. DO IT NOW.
pixarfan9510http://www.blogger.com/profile/09484251018364229838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3818878906481665379.post-82763065833228237832013-01-02T15:12:00.002-05:002013-01-02T15:12:39.547-05:00Concept Art for Pixar's Next Four Films

In a very cool way, Pixar sent Coming Soon a New Year's card that featured art from their next four films! The one from Monsters U. we've seen before, but some new/first looks at the upcoming slate. First up is a look at The Good Dinosaur, directed by Bob Peterson. Next is a first look at The Inside Out, Pete's inside the mind film. Finally we have a first look at Lee's Day of the Dead movie. This is definitely exciting news and it just heightens my excitement for each of these films. The Good Dinosaur drops May 30, 2014. The Inside Out drops June 19, 2015. The Untitled Pixar Movie about Dia de los Muertos drops in 2016.pixarfan9510http://www.blogger.com/profile/09484251018364229838noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3818878906481665379.post-17255177079485703362013-01-02T14:46:00.001-05:002013-01-02T14:46:35.375-05:00Monsters U. In probably the best viral marketing Pixar has ever done, they have released a fake commercial for Monsters University the actual university. As a high school senior, this is definitely the coolest viral campaign Pixar has ever done. The website that they have set up for Monsters U. is better than some real colleges actual website. I love it. Monsters U. drops June 21.pixarfan9510http://www.blogger.com/profile/09484251018364229838noreply@blogger.com0
